America's National Parks
Last night was the 4th episode of "The National Parks, America's Best Idea." Every evening of the series is a reminder of my first natural high, in Yellowstone National Park at about age 8. From the plains of Kansas, we were on our way to visit my grandmother in Montana. Dad had a schedule for the number of miles we were to drive each day so our family arrived late in the park. Worn out, we were thankful there was a cabin available. The following morning, Mom instructed us children to go outside while she finished packing. There, in the chilly mountain air, among the huge trees, the smell of pines, and misty light filtering through branches, I knew God for the first time, and would never be the same.
